W.A.Y.S. Weekly Update

Dear WAYS Community,

As the end of the school year approaches, please remind your child of the importance of making good choices and setting goals to finish the year on a positive note. Help them to make choices and decisions that are right for them. Good choices = Rewards and Positive Recognition. Poor choices = accepting the consequences.  Having goals gives direction, focus, and purpose. They help students determine where they want to go and what has to be accomplished. Goals can be long-term or short term, but need to be specific, measurable, and realistic. Remind your child to think about their goals and values, and then decide the steps needed to get there. Also, have them think about what to say and do before entering a situation where they may have to make a quick decision.

Once again we had a busy week full of activities here at WAYS.  The book fair was up at both sites all week, manned by staff and parents.  We hope you got some good summer reading for your children.   I have enclosed a suggested reading list you might find useful.  The library also has reading lists by grade level. Suggested Summer Reading List

On Thursday our campuses welcomed guests to talk to students about their careers. Students saw military personnel, journalists, a lawyer, a policeman, a filmmaker and an entrepreneur. Students asked great questions and got a chance to think about what they might be able to do in the future.

On Friday, the fifth graders went to their formal ball at the Scientology Center.  It was fantastic to see what beautiful princesses and noble men we have seen blossom at our school.  Our fifth graders sang and danced and ate and celebrated!

This week is our last SSC meeting on the 22nd at Manchester at 2 pm.  The team will look at our textbook selections and our science curriculum and budget for the 2013- 2014 year.  All parents are invited to attend.

Also on the 22nd for the after school program The Archer School for Girls in Brentwood will be joining us for a reading day.  The girls have done a book drive for our school and will be bringing over 1,000 books as well as pizza for an afternoon of reading and activities.  We are very excited for this new partnership.

On Friday is our last science fair for the year.  The Earth science fair will be open to the parents starting at 1:30 pm.

Last but certainly not least please join us for the Edutainer Pt 2-The Musical on the 23rd at 10 am and 6 pm.  Flyer is attached.  You won’t want to miss this wonderful show.

Let’s make these last two weeks count!  This has been such a rich and full school year and we owe it to the staff, parents and children!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Sincerely,

Karen Horowitz
Vice Principal
